DIY Rustic Fall Sign Tutorial

The cooler weather in the mornings and evenings has been giving me all of the Fall feels. This has inspired me to make this cute Fall sign for our home. I purchased a Silhouette CAMEO 3recently and I have been having a blast creating some beautiful signs. This is a great way to create home decor pieces that will match your home perfectly.

To make a sign you will need a few supplies:

Steps to make a DIY Fall Sign

First, I sanded my board to create a smooth surface and wiped it with a clean damp cloth. Then while wearing gloves I stained the board with one coat of my favorite wood stain. This stain has a low odor, dries quickly, and looks amazing. I wiped the excess stain off after 5 minutes and let the board dry overnight.
While the stain was drying I used Silhouette Studio to create my design. I used text boxes to create the words and played with the different fonts until I got it how I wanted it.

DIY Fall SignSince I am using two different vinyl colors in this design, I cut the objects shaded in orange and pasted them to a new sheet so that they could all be printed on the same sheet of vinyl.

Then I place the vinyl on the mat and loaded it into the machine. I clicked send in the top right corner of Silhouette Studio to send the design to the machine to begin printing the design.
Vinyl Loaded into Silhouette
Next, I unloaded the mat from the machine and repeated the steps for the second vinyl color. After all of the printing was complete, I cut each word out to make it easier to work with. This also saves you some extra vinyl that you can use for smaller projects.
Next, I gently pulled the corner of the vinyl back only leaving the design on the paper. I took the hook tool that came in my bundle (can use tweezers if you don't have a hook) to weed out any of the inside pieces of letters. Repeat for each word.

I cut pieces of transfer paper the size of the words and arrow and peeled the transfer paper back. Stick the sticky side of the transfer paper face down onto your words and arrow. Rub over the pieces with the scraper that comes in the bundle, or a credit card. Repeat these steps for each of the words.
Transfer Paper
For each word, I peeled up the transfer paper with the word stuck on it like a sticker. To finish this Fall sign I applied the vinyl words and arrow to the board to my liking. Use the scraper to rub over the pieces to transfer them to the board.

Gently, I pulled up the transfer paper to expose the vinyl design on the board.
Finally, stand back and admire your work you have created your very own Fall Decor Sign! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and have a blast creating your own signs for your home.
