Fall Cotton Field Family Photos

It's Fall y'all and we have slowly been working to mark things off our Fall Bucket List. A couple of weeks ago we went and had family photos taken in a cotton field! I have always wanted to do this and absolutely love how they turned out! It is so important to document moments and I wanted to make sure we had some great family photos with Smokey. He is only fur child and our entire world so I am so glad we have these photos to cherish forever.

The hardest thing with getting these photos done (other than talking my husband into it) was deciding what our color scheme was going to be. After what felt like forever, I finally decided to stick with a neutral navy and white color scheme. I found this beautiful plaid shirt for Thomas and knew it would be our statement piece for our outfits. For my outfit, I went back and forth with wearing a dress or jeans and ultimately I wanted to be comfortable so I settled on jeans. Next, I knew I wanted to keep my look all solids so it wouldn't clash with Thomas' shirt or take away from the cotton. I found this super cozy cardigan at Target and paired it with a white scallop cami I had in my closet from J.Crew Factory. Of course, I had to complete my look with my favorite cowboy boots and Kendra Scott earrings! I just love how these photos turned out and I can't wait to get one printed on canvas!

My advice for selecting your clothes for family photos is select someone to wear the statement pattern and everyone else coordinate with that pattern. It is so much easier to find one great statement piece and let it be your inspiration for the entire family's outfits. With the cotton field, I think it is best not choose anything too bold as you don't want to take away from the beautiful background. At the same time, it's important to select pieces that make you stand out so you don't blend in with the cotton too much. For example, I had this gorgeous white blouse I wanted to wear but I knew that it would blend in with the cotton too much. Layers are also key, I mean it is Fall photos after all! Layers create great dimension and give that cozy Fall feeling. Lastly, lay out the outfits to see how they look together! It helps to see visually how all the outfits look together. Another great way to do this is to have everyone put the outfits on and take a test photo to see how all the outfits photograph together. I hope you enjoyed our Fall family photos and it helps with planning your our photos!
