Fall is officially here y'all! I have been in full decor mood the past couple of weeks and I am finally putting the finishing touch on a couple areas. For my Fall decor, I went with a neutral/muted color scheme of blues, greens, whites, and little pops of orange and buffalo check. It has been really hard to find pumpkins in these colors so I've decided to paint pumpkins to make the perfect color for my decor. This is so easy and fun, I thought I would share with you the process so you can have the perfect pumpkins for your Fall decor color scheme.
I went to so many stores searching for the perfect blue/green pumpkins to fit my Fall decor theme, I found a couple at Marshalls but I needed a few more. After checking 5 different stores I finally decided to create my perfect pumpkins! I went to Hobby Lobby and purchased cream foam pumpkins that would be easy to paint over. Since I got neutral pumpkins I didn't have to primer them to paint over. The only prep work I did was wipe the pumpkins done.
I wanted to stick with my muted blue/green and buffalo check theme that I started last year. I found chalk paint at hobby lobby that I mixed with some other colors I had on hand to create the perfect shade.
My inspiration was this tiered pumpkin that has the most beautiful muted colors.
I used the colors white, calypso sky, and lime green to create a blue shade for my pumpkins.
After painting one side of the pumpkin I decided I didn't like the color. It was too much of a sky blue and didn't fit my color scheme. I added a drop of lime green and some more white to create more of a minty blue shade.
It only took one coat and I was in love! How adorable are these pumpkins y'all?!
All painted and super cute! I love the color it really adds a fun pop. The solid color felt a little unfinished for my liking. I decided to try my hand at dry brushing, never attempted it before but I went for it and love the end result!
You can see the difference between the solid and dry brush here.
Dry brushing was really easy! I just dipped my brush in some white chalk paint and then run my brush over a napkin to wipe off most of the paint.
I started with even brush strokes from the bottom to the top to create this rustic look that really transformed the look of the pumpkin.
I let them air dry and tossed them on my scale, creating the perfect Fall dining table centerpiece! I am OBSESSED with how it turned out and totally in love with this color scheme. I fell in love with buffalo check last year and I've always LOVED adding pops of blue in my decor so its no surprise that this would be the perfect theme for my Fall decor.
I hope you enjoyed this DIY and try it yourself!
